Standard Notary Fee Structure

1. Statutory Notarial Fees (State-Regulated)

These fees are the legal maximums set by § 47.1-19 of the Code of Virginia for the specific act of signing and sealing a document.

Legal Fee: Paper-Based Notarization $10.00 per signature/act

Remote Online Notarization (RON): $25.00 per signature/act

Note: These fees apply to acknowledgments, oaths/affirmations, and certifying copies.

2. Mobile & Administrative Fees

A flat $35 fee for the notary to come to your location

After-Hours/Emergency Fee: Additional charges for services performed late at night, on weekends, or on holidays.

Hospital or Jail Visit Fee: A premium for the extra time and security procedures required for these locations.

Cancellation/No-Show Fee: Charged if the notary arrives and the signing cannot proceed due to missing ID or missing signers.

3. Clerical & Document Services Printing/Loan Signing Set:

Printing/Loan Signing Set: Usually $0.25–$0.50 per page.

Courier/Shipping: Actual cost of FedEx/UPS plus a small “drop-off” fee.

Providing Witnesses: If the document requires witnesses and the notary provides them, they may charge a per-witness fee.

Apostille or Authentication Basic Fees:
Notarization: $10 per notarial act for paper documents.


State Apostille Fee: $10 per document – check payable to the “Secretary of the Commonwealth”.
Total Apostille or Authentication Basic Fees: $20 per document.

Apostille or Authentication with A Genuine Consul Premium Facilitation Fees:
Notarization: $10 per notarial act for paper documents.
State Apostille Fee: $10 per document – check payable to the “Secretary of the Commonwealth”.
Service/Courier Fee: $125 for the first document to cover A Genuine Consul’s filing with the state.
Shipping Costs: Client pays for FedEx/UPS prepaid shipping labels (both to and from Richmond) in addition to service fees.
Expedited Processing: $250 for 1–3 day turnaround with in-person handling in Richmond, Virginia.
Total Apostille or Authentication with A Genuine Consul Premium Facilitation Fees: $395 + FedEx/UPS prepaid shipping labels per document.

4. Real Estate Closing Fees

If acting as a Certified Signing Agent (CSA) for a mortgage closing:

Loan Signing Fee: $200 flat package rate (covers the entire stack of documents, travel, and printing, rather than charging $10 per individual signature).

  • Traditional/In-Person Act: $10 per signature.
  • Remote Online Act: $25 per signature.
  • Travel/Mobile Service Fee (assessed for service beyond Ballston Metro location of Arlington, Virginia): $35 base travel fee. Agreed upon in advance with the signer.
  • Affidavits & Depositions: $10 per oath.
  • Acknowledgment/Signature Witnessing: $10 per signature.
  • Certified Copies: $10 for certifying a copy is a true copy.

A Genuine Consul’s rates for mobile notary services in Virginia consist of the statutory $10 fee per notarial act plus actual and reasonable travel expenses, as permitted by Virginia Code § 47.1-19. All travel fees are separate from the notarial fee; by confirming your booked appointment, you acknowledge and consent to these agreed-upon charges.

Professional Fees

Notarial Act Fee: A fee of $10 is charged per each traditional notarial act (seal/stamp). RON acts, the fee is $25 for each notarial act.
Travel & Convenience Fee: A base travel fee of $35 applies to all mobile appointments outside of the Ballston Metro location (Orange Metro Line) of Arlington, VA. This fee covers actual and reasonable expenses such as mileage, fuel, and the convenience of on-site service.

⁠Cancellation & Rescheduling

Advance Notice (24+ Hours): Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice or more incur no penalty. Any pre-paid notarial act fees will be refunded in full.
Late Cancellation (Less than 24 Hours): Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a late fee and forfeiture of the $35 base travel fee.

⁠No-Show & Unprepared
Signer Policy

No-Show: If the signer is not present within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, theappointment is considered a no-show. The client is responsible for the full agreed-upon $35 base travel fee.
Incomplete Signings: If the notary arrives but cannot complete the act due client’s expired/missing ID, lack of required witnesses, or incomplete documents, the full $35 base travel fee remains due and is non-refundable.



Refund Restrictions

Earned Fees: The $35 base travel fee is considered earned once the notary begins transit to your location. No refunds will be issued for travel once the notary is en route or has arrived.
Completed Services: All completed notarizations are final. No refunds are provided if a document is later rejected by a third party for reasons outside of the notary’s control.

Client Acknowledgment:

By confirming this appointment, you agree to these terms and the pre-negotiated travel rate. You acknowledge that you must present valid, government-issued photo identification at the time of service.
